Here's my number. So track me maybe.

On 15 April 2013, I will be presented with a tremendous gift.  I will be running with a gazillion other people from Hopkinton to Boston in the 117th  running of the Boston Marathon.
If you'd like to keep tabs on me, you can do so by tracking me via my bib number.  My number is 23646 and I am starting at the back of the pack in wave 3 corral 6.  I'm shooting for a sub 4 hr finish time.

BRAD'S BIB NUMBER:  23646

You can text RUNNER to 345678 to get alerts at 10K, 1/2 marathon, 30K, and Finish.

See you at the finish line!

  1. I too am a 40 year old dad, runner, engineer, and general geek! I had experimented with VFFs in the fall of '09 and gave up on traditional trainers/flats after the 2010 Boston marathon where the narrow last gave my toes a beating.

You're going to have a great time at Boston. The crowds and energy are everything that you've heard. Unlike most marathons where the locals treat the race as a nuisance, Bostonians embrace their marathon, and do their best to be great hosts.

Remember that you are slotted into a wave/corral with people who have similar abilities to you. Since 90% of people run too fast at the start of Boston, you should do everything in your power to run slightly slower than the majority of people around you. If you are passing people in the first 7 miles, you are likely to blow up.

The last 6 miles of the race are very easy (flat to downhill), but most people are too trashed by that point to notice. If you've run the first 20 miles smart, you can drop the hammer in the last 6 to get under your 4hr goal easily.

    Good luck!

  2. Holy shit - I just checked your time, and you must have been in the Boylston post-finish are when the explosions hit. I hope you and any friends/family are okay.
